Taxonomic Etymology:
Named for its coloration.
Crotaphytus — Greek krotaphos = “temple” (side of the head) + phyton = “creature” — possibly referencing head or jaw musculature.
nebrius — Latin nebrius = “fawn” or “young deer,” likely referring to its pale or spotted coloration.
