Taxonomic Etymology:
Named for its leaf-like snout and a naturalist.
Phyllorhynchus — From Greek phyllon (φύλλον), meaning “leaf,” and rhynchos (ῥύγχος), meaning “snout” or “beak,” referring to the flattened, leaf-shaped rostrum.
browni — A patronym honoring Herbert Brown (1848–1913), a prominent Arizona naturalist and ornithologist, who collected the holotype specimen.
