The Amphibians, Reptiles, and Turtles of Delaware

This checklist is based on the sixth (2009) edition of Standard Common and Current Scientific Names for North American Amphibians, Turtles, Reptiles, and Crocodilians by Joseph T. Collins and Travis W. Taggart, and the third edition (1998) of the Peterson Field Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians of Eastern and Central North America by Roger Conant and Joseph T. Collins. These well-known books have been widely adopted in North America (north of Mexico) and provide standard common names that permit ease of use across the U.S. states and Canadian provinces. In addition to providing a complete hierarchical taxonomy (fully supported by current molecular evidence) with author attribution and year of description, the current scientific name of each native species of amphibian, reptile, and turtle that has been verified from Delaware is shown as well as its standard common name. This herpetofaunal checklist is updated daily by The Center for North American Herpetology, the only such service available to the North American herpetological community and Delaware herpetologists and biologists.
