The Amphibians of Newfoundland & Labrador

This checklist is based on the sixth (2009) edition of Standard Common and Current Scientific Names for North American Amphibians, Turtles, Reptiles, and Crocodilians by Joseph T. Collins and Travis W. Taggart, the third edition (1998) of the Peterson Field Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians of Eastern and Central North America by Roger Conant and Joseph T. Collins, and the Canadian Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Network (CARCNET), with modifications and/or corrections to the latter to standardize the common names for ease of use across Canadian provinces and U.S. states. In addition to providing a complete hierarchical taxonomy (fully supported by current molecular evidence) with author attribution and year of description, the current scientific name of each native species of amphibian that has been verified from Newfoundland and Labrador is shown as well as its standard common name. This herpetofaunal checklist is updated daily by The Center for North American Herpetology, the only such service available to the North American herpetological community and Newfoundland and Labrador herpetologists and biologists.
