32ND ANNUAL GOPHER TORTOISE COUNCIL MEETING
When: 7-10 October 2010
Where: Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana, Alabama

Preliminary Agenda:
Thursday, 7 October: GTC Business Meeting
Friday, 8 October: Special Alabama Session and Panel Discussion Regarding the Potential Implications of a Range-wide Federal Listing
Friday will kick off with a keynote presentation by Craig Guyer (Auburn University) followed by presentations highlighting tortoise and longleaf pine research and conservation in Alabama. In the afternoon, a panel discussion will convene to discuss how a federal listing will influence various stakeholders. A question and answer session will allow the audience to participate.
Saturday, 9 October: Ecology and Habitat Conservation and Ray Ashton Tribute
Conference sessions will focus on traditional meeting topics, such as gopher tortoise ecology, commensal species ecology, and upland habitat conservation efforts. On Saturday afternoon, we will remember a gopher tortoise conservation pioneer.
Saturday Evening Social: Join us Saturday night on-site for beverages and the musical stylings of Olin Howlin, an Auburn favorite.

CHELONIAN CONFERENCE IN FLORIDA
The Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) and the IUCN/SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group are pleased to announce a joint symposium.
When: 16-19 August 2010
Where: Orlando, Florida
This is the 8th annual conference hosted by the TSA, and has become the world’s largest gathering of tortoise and freshwater turtle biologists in the world. As the tradition continues, we are grateful for the generous support of our conference title sponsor, ZooMed. This promises to be a major international conference, with over 100 presentations. DIAMONDBACK TERRAPIN SYMPOSIUM
Call for papers
The 5th National Symposium on the Ecology, Status, and Conservation of the Diamondback Terrapin is announced.
Where: LUMCON W. J. DeFelice Marine Center, Chauvin, Louisiana
When: 12-14 November 2010
The Diamondback Terrapin Working Group is made up of individuals from academic, scientific, regulatory and private institutions/organizations working to promote the conservation of the Diamondback Terrapin, the preservation of intact, wild terrapin populations and their associated ecosystems throughout their range. DTWG is committed to and supports research, management, conservation, and education efforts with the above goals in mind.
This conference is a forum for the presentation of current information on Diamondback Terrapin research and conservation. In addition to updating colleagues on current research, the conference can serve as a forum to identify research needs, foster friendships, and rekindle interest in terrapins by bringing people with diverse backgrounds together. All interested individuals are invited.
We are accepting abstracts for oral papers and posters from now until 1 October 2010. Posters will be on display on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning. The poster session will be on Saturday afternoon. Presentations are planned to be 20 minutes in total length (15 min. presentation, 5 min. questions).

KHS 37th Meeting - Topeka 11/6/2010 - 11/7/2010
All scientific paper sessions for the Kansas Herpetological Society 37th Annual Meeting will be held in the Gary K. Clarke Education Center at the Topeka Zoo, Topeka, Kansas, on 6-7 November 2010. Keynote Speaker TBA. Topic TBA.

MIDWEST PARC ANNUAL MEETING
When: 13-15 August 2010
Where: Lorado Taft Field Campus of Northern Illinois University
MEETING THEME: BLANDING’S TURTLE BIOLOGY, CONSERVATION, AND MANAGEMENT
Keynote Address: Dr. Justin Congdon, Professor Emeritus at the University of Georgia’s Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL)
Invited Talks: Invited speakers will discuss a broad range of issues relating to Blanding’s Turtle biology, conservation, and management.
Blanding’s Turtle Status in the Midwest: Short contributed talks will provide updates on conservation status and management actions for each of the Midwest PARC member states. Presenters will synthesize information provided by local experts based on a data template distributed prior to the meeting. See meeting webpage for details.
Contributed Posters: Contributed posters relating to Midwest amphibians, turtles, and reptiles are welcome. See registration form for details.
Breakout Sessions: Breakout sessions will seek to (1) evaluate current Blanding’s Turtle status and management strategies with the goal of sharing that information with the USFWS and state agencies and (2) address current task team objectives. Likely topics include Blanding’s Turtle Status - Information Gaps, Blanding’s Turtle Management - Tactics, Strategies, and Research Needs, Fire and Herpetofauna, Agriculture and Herpetofauna.
Silent Auction: To raise funds for Midwest PARC, a silent auction will run throughout the day on Saturday, August 14. See registration form or meeting website to contribute items.
Social Events: Friday evening, August 13 - Opening reception; Saturday evening, August 14 - Ravenswood Media screening and mixer.
Field Trips: Friday afternoon, August 13 - Richardson Wildlife Foundation (privately owned restoration site 30 mi south of the Taft Campus); Sunday afternoon, August 15 - Nachusa Grasslands (3,000 acre Nature Conservancy reserve 11 mi south of the Taft Campus).
Meeting Site: Lorado Taft Field Campus of Northern Illinois University located 1.5 miles north of Oregon in north central Illinois.

NE PARC ANNUAL MEETING SET
What: Northeast Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Annual Meeting

Call for abstracts: Abstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations at the 12th annual meeting of the Northeast Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (NEPARC) to be held 10-11 August 2010 at the Schoodic Education and Research Center in Acadia National Park, Maine. NEPARC is an active, diverse, and inclusive partnership dedicated to the conservation of amphibians, reptiles, and turtles and their habitats throughout northeastern North America. Annual meetings are an ideal forum to share current research and conservation initiatives, participate in working group sessions, and to network with like-minded herpetological enthusiasts in the Northeast.
Oral presentations will be approximately 20 minutes in total length (including time for questions). A special poster session and social will be held to facilitate the sharing of ideas and interactions among attendees and presenters. Presentations by students (graduate and undergraduate) are encouraged.
Presentations are invited on all topics related to reptile and amphibian conservation, and are especially solicited for the following topics:
Vernal Pools of the Northeastern North America – Biology, Conservation, and Policy
Other High Priority Herpetofauna Habitats of Northeastern North America
Climate Change: Implications for Northeastern North American Herpetofauna and their Habitats
Disease and Malformation of Northeastern North American Herpetofauna
Due to the structure of the meeting (including working group sessions), there are few speaker slots available and some oral presentations may be asked to consider a poster presentation.
Meeting registration fees are low to encourage participation by all new and existing members of the NEPARC community and will be discounted 50% for any accepted oral presentations. SOUTHWEST PARC ANNUAL MEETING
When: 5-6 August 2010
Where: Colorado State University, Fort Collins
The SWPARC annual meeting this year will be on the campus of Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado. The meeting runs August 5th and 6th and will be followed by training on August 7th and 8th.
The meeting will begin on the first day with a keynote speaker (David Chiszar, University
of Colorado). The second day includes another keynote speaker (Cynthia Carey, University
of Colorado) and working group discussions. The meeting will conclude at 5:00 pm on August 6th followed by a live auction and mixer.
