At its meeting on 3 November 2006 in Hays, Kansas, The Center for North American Herpetology Board of Directors approved creation of this North American Introduced Exotic Species Checklist on its web site. The list is organized in the same manner as the CNAH checklist on native species; common names are those used in Collins and Taggart (2002. Standard Common and Current Scientific Names for North American Amphibians, Turtles, Reptiles, and Crocodilians. Fifth Edition.) and the more recent comprehensive work on Florida by Meshaka et al. (2004. The Exotic Amphibians and Reptiles of Florida), which also adopted the common names of Collins and Taggart (op. cit.). The common names for species introduced to Hawaii are those used in the work of the late Sean McKeown (1996. A Field Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians in the Hawaiian Islands. Diamond Head Publishing, Los Osos, California. iv + 172 pp.). Coverage for this CNAH checklist includes Canada and the United States only. The addition of species to this page is and will be based on data received from CNAH Board Member Walter E. Meshaka, Jr., the leading authority on herpetological species introduced and established in North America (north of Mexico). Common names for future additions to this page will be based on Frank and Ramus (1995. A Complete Guide to Scientific and Common Names of Reptiles and Amphibians of the World. NG Publishing, Pottsville, Pennsylvania. 377 pp.), which remains the only authoritative common names list for herpetofauna worldwide.
